A temporary roof has been installed on the residential building on Lenin Street that was damaged by a fire on June 28, according to Raman Melnik, head of the Leninski District administration in Minsk.

The district administration has decided to revise its plans for the building’s major renovation. The overhaul is now expected to take place in 2027, according to BelTA.

“Given the circumstances, a decision has been made to prepare the project documentation this year and carry out the major renovation in 2027. This is the most appropriate solution, so the building’s residents can rest assured. As part of addressing the consequences of the incident, we will complete these works,” Melnik said.

Some of the building’s residents are temporarily staying in a dormitory.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fire broke out on the evening of June 28 in the six-story residential building at 9 Lenin Street. At around 6:40 p.m., the director of one of the companies occupying office space in the building noticed the smell of smoke and alerted the Emergency Situations Ministry. The fire spread across more than 1,000 square meters, and firefighters did not fully extinguish it until around 3:00 a.m. on Monday. Residents were temporarily evacuated from the building.
