The Interior Ministry has reported the disclosure of a major theft involving a Minsk resident. According to the ministry, the man reported the disappearance of his family’s savings. A 14-year-old school student is suspected of the theft.

According to police, the teenager stole the money in two stages during parties — so-called “flats” — organised by the victim’s daughter. First, in September, the boy took about USD 19,000 from a bedside drawer in the bedroom. No one noticed the loss at the time.

“In November, the ninth-grader visited the home again for another ‘party’. This time he took around EUR 80,000. Only after that was the disappearance of the savings discovered,” the Interior Ministry said.

The teenager asked his adult acquaintances to exchange the currency. He spent the money on entertainment and expensive purchases, including branded clothing. He told his parents that he had obtained the new items by swapping with friends.

“About EUR 22,000 has been seized and returned to the rightful owner. Investigators have opened a criminal case for large-scale theft. Liability under this article begins at the age of 14,” the ministry added.
