The State Control Committee has uncovered instances of corruption at the Academy of Sciences. Illegal schemes were also linked to the development of an electric vehicle. This was reported by the head of the SCC Vasiliy Herasimau.
According to him, employees of the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering were dividing among themselves the allocated funds.
“The deputy director proposed to the director an enrichment scheme in which part of the funds allocated for the development of the electric vehicle was paid to nine employees. Then half of these funds was taken back and divided among the director, the deputy director, the chief accountant, and the economist. At the same time, the lion’s share was taken by the deputy director,” Herasimau said, as reported by BelTA.
According to him, when the topic of electric vehicles ended, the individuals involved devised a new scheme related to the development of hydrogen power units. The scheme was similar.
It should be noted that Alyaksandr Lukashenka recently reproached the Academy of Sciences for having received funds for the development of an electric vehicle but delivering no result.
“Other instances have also been uncovered, which are currently being assessed,” Herasimau added.
At the R&D Center, the director of one of the branches paid for protection to the director and took kickbacks from suppliers.
“It is noteworthy that earlier this director was the head of another branch and had been convicted for bribery,” the SCC head added.
A bonus scheme was uncovered at the Institute of Biochemistry.
“Allegedly, development was being carried out, bonuses were paid, and then part of these bonuses was collected back,” Herasimau said.
At the same institute, an order was processed for the Hrodna State Medical University. The university was paid 20,000 rubles, while 168,000 rubles were appropriated.
Herasimau added that at the Foton children’s recreational camp of the National Academy of Sciences, construction workers were required to pay kickbacks to the director in order to carry out construction work.
