A closed trial has begun at the Šiauliai Regional Court against six foreigners accused of attempting to set fire to equipment intended to support Ukraine. The hearing began at around 2 p.m., LRT reports, citing BNS.
The case was referred to court in January. Five men and one woman are on trial — citizens of Belarus, Colombia, Spain, Cuba and Russia. The defendants are charged with participation in a terrorist group, attempted terrorist attack and financing terrorist activity.
The defendants were brought into the courtroom under escort by around 10 officers from a special police unit, some of whom were armed with assault rifles. Police did not allow journalists to speak with the Spanish-speaking defendants, while lawyers communicated with two of them in Russian. One of the accused shouted an obscenity in Spanish while passing journalists, the outlet writes.
According to prosecutors, in September 2024 the defendants planned to destroy the infrastructure and products of TVC Solutions worth around 5.5 million euros — mobile radio spectrum analysis stations intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to law enforcement authorities, they attempted to carry out the sabotage on behalf of and in the interests of Russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU.
