In Byaroza District, a court granted a prosecutor’s claim and restricted a local resident from visiting gambling establishments, including online platforms, and from participating in gambling for three years. The basis was an appeal from his mother, who stated that her son’s gambling addiction had placed the family in a difficult financial situation.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the inspection established that the man regularly visited gambling establishments and lost significant sums. At the same time, he was essentially living at his mother’s expense, not contributing to utility payments, food purchases, or other necessary expenses.
In addition, the young man took out several loans, which he also spent on gambling.
Following the inspection, the prosecutor filed a lawsuit requesting that the respondent be restricted from visiting gambling establishments, including virtual ones, and from participating in gambling. The court fully granted the request and imposed the maximum period of restriction — three years.
The Prosecutor General’s Office reminded that, under the law, a court may restrict a citizen from participating in gambling for a period of six months to three years if such activity places the person or their family in a difficult financial situation.
A copy of the court decision has been sent to the Monitoring Centre for the Gambling Business to include the man in the relevant register and implement the restrictions.
