The raccoon that arrived from America to Belarus in a container with a car is being kept at the Ashmyany District Veterinary Station, the State Customs Committee reported. The animal was named Senya and has been under the supervision of specialists since the evening of 14 January.
After 72 hours of quarantine, the required veterinary procedures are planned, after which a decision will be made on the animal’s future “place of residence”.
“It is already clear that the unusual ‘passenger’ of the car delivered for clearance to the Hrodna Regional Customs favoured chicken eggs the most. Senya is friendly towards people,” the Committee noted.
Earlier it was reported that Hrodna customs officers and employees of Beltamozhservice discovered the raccoon during the unloading of cars delivered in a sea container from the United States. It was found at the departmental customs clearance point Kamenny Loh–TLC. The animal was on the dashboard of one of the cars. It is assumed that the raccoon may have climbed into the container at the loading stage and then crossed the Atlantic together with the vehicles.
