A resident of India’s Gujarat state says she has become a victim of fraud. According to her, she came to Belarus for work but never received a job and is now unable to return home because she has no money.
The woman, named Meena Joshi, told her story to the Gujarati outlet Divya Bhaskar, Bhaskar English reports.
Joshi, a widow with three children, says an agent promised her a job in Belarus packing fruit with a salary of 70,000–80,000 rupees a month ($770–$870). To pay the agent and travel to Belarus, she borrowed about $6,000.
According to the woman, she did not receive the promised job or salary in Belarus. She claims she was housed in a cowshed 350–400 kilometers from Minsk. In a video, the woman says she is barely surviving and wants to return to India, but has no money.
