The Polish Army has launched Operation Horizon, which was formally authorised by the country’s president yesterday. The operation is a response to recent acts of sabotage on the railway network.
Up to 10,000 service members will assist the police and other services in protecting railway and other critical infrastructure. Joint patrols of military personnel and police officers are already visible at Polish stations. However, the operation will not be limited to this. Military drones will also be used to monitor infrastructure.
It is expected that military forces will be deployed to the most critical and vulnerable locations. They will be redirected dynamically, including on the basis of information from the Internal Security Agency.
Earlier, immediately after the sabotage incidents, several hundred territorial defence soldiers were sent to inspect railway lines and conduct patrols on the rail network.
