The detention of photographer Aliaksandr Shyshko took place in April. Human rights defender Raman Kislyak confirmed the information to the publication Pozirk – News About Belarus: “Aliaksandr had been living in Tbilisi since at least 2022. It is difficult to say why he returned to Belarus, perhaps he missed his homeland and relatives. I think he miscalculated the risk of detention and believed he would get through.”
The human rights defender noted that after Freedom Day 2024, propagandists began mentioning Shyshko in their materials: “As far as I know, a criminal case was opened over the holding of Freedom Day events abroad, and within the framework of this case, a search was carried out at his apartment in Belarus.”
