Details have emerged about a tragedy in Polatsk, during which, according to earlier reports, one woman locked another inside a monastery building and set it on fire. As reported by @viciebsk_news, the fire did not occur on Friday as previously stated, but on Thursday, April 30.
According to local residents, the fire broke out on Euphrosyne of Polatsk Street, near the building of the Polatsk Diocese of the Spaso-Euphrosyne Monastery. These houses are home to sisters, novices, and lay workers. According to sources, the victim was one of the novices, originally from Viciebsk. The woman managed to call the emergency services, but could not be saved.
Preliminary information suggests that the arson was committed by another woman who had previously also worked at the monastery and was reportedly suffering from a mental disorder.
According to the outlet, the funeral took place on May 2.
It should be noted that the Emergency Situations Ministry’s reports did not mention the incident.
