Belarusian mobile operators MTS and A1 reported that together with their Russian partners they have implemented a mechanism for lifting roaming blocks. Since 6 October in Russia, data transmission and SMS sending have been blocked for 24 hours after registering in roaming.

“After connecting to the network of a Russian operator, an SMS message with a special link is automatically sent to the subscriber’s number. To lift the block, it is necessary to complete verification by entering a check code (captcha). This procedure allows you to stay connected while traveling in Russia without waiting for the cooling-off period to end,” MTS said in its statement.

“To unblock the SIM card, immediately after registering in the network of a Russian operator you will receive an SMS with instructions and a link to complete verification using a captcha. To pass verification, you need to enable data transmission on your SIM card while in roaming and follow the instructions. After successful verification, data and SMS services are activated within a few minutes,” A1 explained.

A1 noted that captcha verification for Belarusian numbers is already operational in the Megafon network. With MTS, Beeline, and T2 operators, the function is still in the testing phase.
