Since the beginning of 2026, Belarusian border guards have detected more than 340 document-related violations at the border. In the second quarter, the number of invalid travel documents increased by 12%, from 160 to 180.
The most common violation was the absence of a Belarusian visa, accounting for 157 cases. Another 89 people attempted to cross the border using expired passports, including passports that had not been renewed after a change of surname. Sixty-one travellers presented documents with damaged photographs, worn condition or illegible stamps. Twenty-two people arrived at border checkpoints without documents entitling them to cross the border. Fifteen Belarusian citizens presented passports listed in the database of invalid documents.
As the State Border Committee of Belarus noted, in addition to unintentional violations, deliberate attempts are also being recorded. Since the beginning of the year, five people have been detained for using forged passports.
