An official announcement on the release of more than 150 Belarusian political prisoners is expected in the coming hours, several sources familiar with the situation told Reform.news.
The release is being carried out under a Polish-American negotiation track with the authorities in Minsk. According to our information, those released will be expelled from Belarus to Poland.
Sources said that Chris Smith, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Eastern Europe, has been in Minsk since the beginning of the week. He was later joined by U.S. Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale. On Thursday, Coale met with Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
It is not yet known who is on the release lists, but the American side has taken into account the preferences of the Polish side, the sources said.
