Aliaksandr Lukashenka said he is ready to meet US President Donald Trump. In his view, such a meeting would be beneficial for Belarus. However, he wants to understand what the purpose of holding such a meeting would be. He said this today at the Obuz-Liasnouski training ground.

According to him, he is also ready to work within the Peace Council format.

“Okay, let’s do it together. But not just to play along there — as a decoration. That doesn’t work for me. I tell them directly that I am not ready to meet Donald Trump for that purpose.

To meet with him (that would be good, it would be very useful for Belarus), you need to understand: we meet, and then what (next. — ed.)? Say hello and go our separate ways?” he said, according to his press service.

Lukashenka confirmed that the possibility of a deal with the United States remains on the table.

“We are ready for both a small deal and a big deal”, he said.

He also outlined topics for discussions with the United States.

“We are open. They have lifted sanctions on a number of our enterprises and are ready to lift more. There are a lot of issues,” the head of state said. “Embassies — let’s discuss how we will resume [their work]. Nuclear materials and other things — we have a whole program there — please. If you want to buy potash fertilizers from us (if you want to) — please.”

“I said openly that I am a Trumpist, I supported Trump. I see his mistakes. I tell this directly to his best friend, who is supposed to come to us”, he said.

Lukashenka also said today that Belarus is supplying the United States with a shipment of potash fertilizers. In addition, he demanded the return of more than $40 million that has been “stuck” at the US-based Citibank.
