Aliaksei Kiryenka has been elected head of the Secretariat of the Coordination Council of the fourth convocation, the Coordination Council’s press service reported.
A total of 63 delegates took part in the vote. Kiryenka received 43 votes (68.3%), Yauhen Karaulau received 16 (25.4%), and Dzmitry Maksimchyk received 4 (6.3%).
Kiryenka’s candidacy was unanimously supported by “European Choice,” the “Volya” movement, the “United Civic Platform” and “Stop Being Afraid!”.
Kiryenka also received the majority of votes from the Latushka Coalition and the “For Freedom” movement: 14 delegates voted for him, 8 for Karaulau, and 1 for Maksimchyk.
“Nastup” fully supported Karaulau, who received 7 votes. Three representatives of the Bloc of Belarusian Political Prisoners “Belarusians of Action” voted for Maksimchyk.
It was reported in August that Ivan Krautsou had completed his duties as secretary of the Coordination Council. After him, Yauhen Karaulau from the “Nastup” faction temporarily served as secretary.
