Minsk’s tallest building may face mobile connectivity problems, SB.by reported, citing Dzmitry Korzun, head of the Telecommunications and Radio Frequency Regulation Department at the Communications Ministry.

“In Minsk World, what is likely the tallest building in the capital is being constructed. We, as well as the specialists present, understand that the upper floors will not have mobile service unless measures are taken in advance. The surrounding base stations create cumulative interference that prevents the signal from breaking through noise levels from the ground and ensuring connectivity. As I understand it, there are currently no proposals from the developer, and this may lead to a situation where, once the building is commissioned, the owner, tenants, and residents will face a lack of connectivity and start filing complaints,” he said during a roundtable dedicated to mobile network quality.

According to Korzun, Decree No. 301 “On the Construction of Mobile Communication Facilities” requires developers to act proactively and approach operators at the design stage to ensure equipment is installed before the facility is commissioned. The Communications Ministry has already proposed that the Construction and Architecture Ministry introduce requirements for installing mobile communication infrastructure into building standards and regulations. The proposal concerns residential buildings, sports facilities, and shopping and entertainment centres that involve large gatherings of people. Currently, the building norms do not include requirements to create infrastructure for mobile communications.
