Roaming problems in Russia will be fully resolved by the end of the year, according to Pavel Tkach, First Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization.

Earlier, Belarusian operators had already announced that their clients in Russia can avoid a 24-hour block upon entry.

“The Russian side has confirmed that the testing process to lift the cooling regime for Belarusian citizens roaming in Russia is nearing completion through the introduction of a captcha. Three of the four largest Russian operators have essentially already implemented these services. We believe that this issue will be definitively resolved by the end of the year,” Tkach said, as reported by BelTA.

The First Deputy Minister also reiterated how the mechanism works.

“When Belarusians arrive in Russia, they will immediately receive an SMS message with a link to a specific resource. By following this link, a captcha will appear — most often an image with a set of digits on a colored background. They must be entered into a special field and submitted. If everything is correct, communication services are fully restored. We already have positive test results showing that this works; it simply has not yet been rolled out across all operators’ networks,” he said.
