Fifty-seven-year-old Mahiliou journalist Yauhen Hlushkou has been released after serving his sentence. “Pozirk” reported, citing a source. Shortly after returning to Mahiliou, Hlushkou was hospitalized with a trophic ulcer. He had also been in hospital before his release.
Hlushkou was detained on Jan. 5, 2024. On July 31, 2024, the journalist was sentenced to three years in prison. He was found guilty under articles concerning the creation of or participation in an extremist organization, as well as participation in or preparation for armed activities outside the country. Hlushkou served his sentence at Prison No. 4 in Mahiliou and Penal Colony No. 2 in Babruisk.
Another Mahiliou journalist, Ales Sabaleuski, was charged under the same articles. He was sentenced to four years in prison.
