The European Union is providing Ukraine with another tranche of financial assistance worth €6.1 billion. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made the announcement. European Council President António Costa arrived in the Ukrainian capital today.
“On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Europe is demonstrating its unwavering and concrete support. Today, we approved €6.1 billion for air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunition and radars that Ukraine urgently needs.
As Russian attacks intensify, we are stepping up our efforts to help Ukraine protect its people and defend its airspace. Europe stands with Ukraine, and we will provide it with everything it needs whenever required”, the Commission president said.
The tranche is part of a €90 billion loan for Ukraine. The EU has previously approved a €16 billion procurement plan, of which €8.35 billion has already been allocated.
