Alyaksandr Lukashenka, during a visit to the Lahoysk district to inspect a health resort, suggested building a railway line to the district centre. According to him, the town is considered a satellite of Minsk, yet it has no rail connection.

“When it comes to Lahoysk, we say it is a satellite of Minsk. We need to run some kind of railway line there. I looked at it. Maybe we could even lay tracks along the roadside in one direction and the other and launch something. Something has to be done. We need to finish all housing construction in Minsk and build housing in all these satellite towns. People would get to Minsk in 20–30 minutes. They work and then return home. But that is a separate conversation,” he said, according to his press service.

The nearest railway station to Lahoysk is Smalyavichy, located about 25 kilometres away. It should be noted that in Belarus the launch of a rail connection to Minsk airport has been discussed for more than 10 years, but the project has not been implemented.
