Poland and Ukraine managed to avert a threat to one of the border crossings. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said this on Thursday.
“Thanks to cooperation between our services and their Ukrainian counterparts, we managed to avert a direct threat to one of the border crossings. As you know, Russia has already carried out provocative actions at border crossings, for example in Moldova. We also expect similar actions at border crossings with Ukraine in other countries, including Poland. Unfortunately, we witnessed this today in Poland. It all ended well, but we must be prepared for various such provocations,” he said.
It was previously reported that Russia has recently increased strikes on Ukrainian checkpoints located on the borders with neighboring countries. Checkpoints at crossings with Moldova and Romania have come under attack. On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, the Polish military raised the readiness level of its air defenses and scrambled fighter jets during a Russian attack on Ukraine.
Tusk also said he had received information from the CIA about possible incidents in the near future. Earlier, Poland’s minister-coordinator of special services Tomasz Siemoniak met with CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
“In recent hours, I received a fairly precise report directly from the head of the CIA regarding possible events in the coming months, and, as I have been saying and warning for many months, we should expect various scenarios, and Poland and all of Europe must be prepared for various possible developments, not only on the Russian-Ukrainian front but also on the EU’s eastern flank,” Tusk said.
