Aliaksandr Lukashenka believes that only a loyal army can guarantee sovereignty. He made the statement at a ceremony honoring graduates of higher military educational institutions and senior military officers.

“Our event naturally coincides with the holiday marking Belarus’ Independence Day. And this connection is highly symbolic.

A country can be truly sovereign, especially today, only if it has a strong, well-equipped army that is loyal to the people and the state, and staffed by genuine military professionals,” he said.

As usual, Lukashenka also stressed that Belarusians are a peace-loving people.

“The Belarusian people endured unimaginable hardships during the years of Nazi occupation and, at the genetic level, reject war. We are peaceful people, we do not want to fight, but neither do we intend to bow our heads before an enemy.

That is why throughout all these years Belarus has been building, developing, and strengthening its Armed Forces — the principal guarantor of our independence and territorial integrity,” he added.
