Alyaksandr Lukashenka today heard reports from the head of the State Border Committee Kanstantsin Molastau, KGB chief Ivan Tertel, and Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou.

According to Lukashenka’s press service, “proposals from the Lithuanian side to resolve the situation on the Belarus–Lithuania border” were received earlier today.

Lukashenka instructed Ryzhankou to “organize negotiations on the normalization of the situation and the resumption of full operations at the border crossing points — with the participation of authorized Lithuanian officials responsible for this area.”

The interagency coordination and other support for the talks are to be handled by State Security Council Secretary Alyaksandr Valfovich.

Yesterday it was reported that Belarus is moving Lithuanian truckers’ vehicles to guarded paid parking lots. They will not be allowed to leave the country until the border reopens. Lukashenka also threatened to confiscate the vehicles.

On Monday, the head of Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Center Vilmantas Vitkauskas said that the Lithuanian side would again contact Minsk — this time at the level of the border guard leadership — to open corridors at the Medininkai and Šalčininkai checkpoints and would also use diplomatic and other channels.
