Alyaksandr Lukashenka hopes that the Peace Council led by Donald Trump will focus not only on the conflict in the Gaza Strip but also on resolving the war in Ukraine.
Lukashenka acknowledged that he does not see how Belarus can help resolve the conflict in Gaza.
“What can we really do for Gaza? Even if we help, it will not be much. But what attracts me is that perhaps this Peace Council, its actions and capabilities, will extend to other parts of the planet.
First of all, maybe we can help somehow on Ukraine, discuss things and advance peace, bring it closer, influence the Ukrainian leadership. That is what attracts me most. Not that we will significantly help Gaza. I know my capabilities and the capabilities of our Belarus,” Lukashenka was quoted as saying by his press service.
He explained that he decided to join the Council because he is looking to the future.
“I am looking to the future. Maybe it will not be me, but someone else. Maybe they will say thank you,” Lukashenka said.
On January 20, Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed a document on Belarus’s accession to the Peace Council on behalf of Belarus.
