Alyaksandr Lukashenka congratulated TISZA party leader Péter Magyar on his victory in Hungary’s parliamentary election.
According to Lukashenka’s press service, he expressed hope that “Hungary’s strong voice on the international stage will continue to sound in the spirit of pragmatism, a commitment to maintaining universal security and respect for all peoples”. Lukashenka also said he was convinced that the traditions of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between Minsk and Budapest should continue. He wished Magyar good health and success.
Parliamentary elections were held in Hungary on Sunday, in which the FIDESZ party of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán suffered a crushing defeat after 16 years in power. According to preliminary results, Magyar’s party is set to win 138 seats in the 199-seat parliament, allowing it to introduce constitutional changes.
