Aliaksandr Lukashenka has again spoken about the visit by Belarusian democratic forces to Kyiv on May 25–26. This time, he accused the democratic forces of wanting to send Belarusians to fight in Ukraine.
“Moreover, I am reading reports from our intelligence services. They report that our fugitives went there… To quote directly, they told the Ukrainians: ‘We have something to offer you — our Belarusians.’ So what, are we supposed to go and fight in Ukraine for someone else’s freedom? Do we want to become minced meat there, as the military say? No. We do not want that,” Lukashenka said during the opening ceremony of the Hrodna Regional Clinical Hospital on June 5.
Lukashenka said that Belarus does not want war and has no intention of fighting anyone.
“I want builders to build, not to hold machine guns or assault rifles. Therefore, do not believe anyone who says that we want some kind of war,” he said.
Lukashenka stressed that it is important to preserve the country given the tense situation around it.
“I look around and think about only one thing: how to preserve all this. How to make sure that an enemy’s face, excuse me, does not get in here and smash and destroy everything,” Lukashenka said.
Last week, Lukashenka also commented on the visit by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya to Ukraine. At the time, he claimed that the Belarusian democratic forces were allegedly planning to train militants to seize a district centre in Belarus.
