The Lithuanian government decided at today’s meeting to reopen two border crossing points with Belarus ahead of schedule. The Šalčininkai and Medininkai checkpoints had previously been closed until 30 November.
Under the government’s decision, the crossing points will resume operations on Thursday, 20 November.
According to BNS, Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovič stated at the government meeting that on Tuesday the National Security Commission had deemed it appropriate to reopen the checkpoints, as circumstances had changed and the restrictions on crossing the state border introduced on 29 October were no longer necessary. He proposed declaring the related government decree on the suspension of the checkpoints void.
He added that Lithuania reserves the right to close the border again in the event of negative developments.
