The Lithuanian National Road Carriers Association Linava and the Lithuanian Customs Service have agreed on a temporary simplified procedure for truck entry if Belarus allows the return of detained Lithuanian lorries. LRT reported the development, citing BNS.
Under the agreement, customs will allow trucks to leave Lithuania without their semi-trailers so that drivers can retrieve the trailers left in Belarus.
Linava president Erlandas Mikenas said the decision would speed up the process of returning the equipment once Minsk grants the necessary permission.
“This decision opens a real path for companies to recover their property and reduce mounting losses,” the association noted.
However, it is reported that the issue of returning the trucks themselves remains unresolved.
“It was important for us to ensure that carriers did not lose their semi-trailers, which are their property and working tools, and could retrieve them as soon as the return of all equipment is agreed. Together with the Customs Department, we found a way to make this possible, and this is an important step toward stabilising the situation,” Mikenas stressed.
