A criminal case has been opened in Lepel District against a 37-year-old man accused of using violence against officers of the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora. According to the Investigative Committee’s press service, the incident occurred on April 6, 2026.
Inspectors stopped a Volkswagen vehicle for inspection. Inside, they discovered a wolf carcass bearing signs of a gunshot wound. While the violation was being documented, the driver refused to comply with the inspectors’ lawful demands, got into the vehicle and drove towards them, injuring one of the officers before fleeing the scene. The vehicle was soon stopped with the assistance of the traffic police. After his detention, the man allegedly threatened an inspector.
He has been charged under Article 366 of the Criminal Code, which covers violence or threats of violence against a public official. A court authorised his detention in custody. His property has been placed under arrest. The suspect had previously been convicted of theft-related offences.
A separate investigation is underway into the illegal killing of the wolf.
