Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Uladzimir Karanik said Belarus’ space flight program for the coming years has been largely finalized. He made the remarks in an interview with TASS at the first Russian Space Forum.

“The flight program for the next three years has been practically formed. Even for four: 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028. But 2026 is still open. There may be an opportunity to discuss and implement some project in 2026”, he said.

He noted that in December 2025, two Belarusian satellites were launched into Earth orbit — one for studying the ionosphere and the other for remote sensing of the Earth in the infrared spectrum, intended to detect thermal anomalies and fires. The second satellite is completing flight tests and will soon be put into operation, Karanik added.

“We plan to launch three satellites in 2027, one of which will further strengthen ionosphere research capabilities, while the second will be used for remote sensing of the Earth in the optical spectrum with a resolution of about two meters. The resolution may not seem particularly impressive, but if I say that we plan to achieve it using a nanosatellite weighing less than 50 kilograms, then it becomes a very interesting project being implemented within the framework of the Union State together with our Russian colleagues. And in November 2028, we plan to launch our ultra-high-resolution satellite”, the head of the academy said.

“We would like there not to be a single year without a launch”, he added.
