Chair of the Council of the Republic Natallia Kachanava met with a delegation from Mali that is visiting Belarus. The delegation is headed by the Vice-Chairman of the National Defence, Security and Civil Protection Commission of the National Transitional Council, Fousseynou Ouattara.
According to the press service of the Council of the Republic, the sides discussed issues of Belarus–Mali interparliamentary and trade and economic cooperation.
Natallia Kachanava stressed that Belarus is actively offering its goods and services to African countries. As an example, she cited cooperation with Zimbabwe.
“You know that we are among the largest suppliers of agricultural machinery and are ready for cooperation, just as we are with food products. Today Belarus provides food not only for itself but can supply two and a half Belarus-sized populations. We export agricultural products to 116 countries around the world. Last year we exported goods worth $10 billion,” she said.
Kachanava also welcomed any ideas for establishing joint enterprises. She expressed readiness to sign a memorandum of cooperation.
Fousseynou Ouattara said after the meeting that the mining industry is developing in Mali and that his country is interested in arranging supplies of Belarusian machinery without intermediaries. The delegation visited BelAZ and MAZ.
Mali experienced two military coups in 2020 and 2021. Since then the country has been led by the military under the leadership of Assimi Goïta. In May last year all political parties in Mali were dissolved. In the summer of 2025 the transitional parliament granted Goïta a five-year presidential term that may be extended without elections.
