A meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Belarus was held at the Foreign Ministry, during which condolences from the head of state were conveyed.

First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Syarhei Lukashevich met today with Iranian Ambassador to Belarus Alireza Sanei.

The parties paid particular attention to the situation in the Middle East. Lukashevich expressed sympathy over the numerous civilian casualties and conveyed condolences from Aliaksandr Lukashenka in connection with the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

“Serious concern was confirmed regarding the events affecting countries of the Middle East region. The Belarusian side proceeds from the lack of any alternative to resolving conflicts of any kind exclusively through political and diplomatic means,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service reported.

Lukashenka had earlier sent condolences to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian over Khamenei’s death. He stated that the death was the result of a “treacherous attack,” but did not mention the United States or Israel in his message.
