Interpol Issues Red Notices for Suspects in Railway Sabotage in Poland

Main

Interpol has notified the Polish police of the publication of Red Notices for two individuals accused of carrying out sabotage on Poland’s railway network.

“On 17 December this year, the General Secretariat of Interpol informed the Bureau of International Police Cooperation of the National Police Headquarters about the publication of Red Notices for persons suspected of committing acts of terrorist sabotage on behalf of the intelligence services of the Russian Federation in Garwolin County on 15–16 November this year,” the Polish police said in a statement.

Earlier, the Polish prosecutor’s office brought charges against two Ukrainian citizens, Yevhenii Ivanov and Oleksandr Kononov. Immediately after the sabotage, before their identities were established, they left Poland for Belarus through the Terespol–Brest border crossing.

On 21 November, the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that Belarusian competent authorities were cooperating with their Polish counterparts and that “active search measures” were underway in the country. No further information on the case has been published since then.

It should be noted that the Belarusian Interior Ministry continues to cooperate with Interpol. Representatives of Belarusian law-enforcement agencies have participated in events of the international police organisation. In April this year, Belarus extradited to Austria a person wanted through Interpol.
