Local human rights defender and civic activist Uladzimir Tseliapun has been detained in Mazyr, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports. According to preliminary information, he was taken into custody several days or about a week ago.
He is believed to be held in the temporary detention center of the Mazyr District Police Department. The exact reasons and legal grounds for the detention are still being clarified.
Uladzimir Tseliapun is known in the region for his work defending human rights, including the right to peaceful assembly. In 2019, he actively helped families raising children with disabilities when they were fighting to preserve the work of the Rainbow rehabilitation center.
