Household Lending Fell by 16.5% in January

In January, banks issued loans to individuals totalling 1.08 billion roubles. Compared with the same month last year, the volume of lending fell by 16.5%, according to data published by the National Bank of Belarus.

Consumer lending volumes decreased by 15.8% to 888.6 million roubles. Lending for real estate fell by 19.3% to 191.2 million roubles.

Household credit debt declined by 1.5 million roubles in January and amounted to 29.78 billion roubles as of February 1. Over the year, household credit debt increased by 12.7%.

Debt on consumer loans rose by 14.4% to 11.74 billion roubles, while debt on real estate loans increased by 11.7% to 18 billion roubles.

As of February 1, individuals had overdue loans totalling 50.7 million roubles, which is 3.2 million roubles more than as of January 1. Over the year, the volume of overdue debt increased by 7.6 million roubles.
