In early February, Alexander Morzhukhin, head of the Russian House in Homyel, accused local authorities of taking an unconstructive approach toward the organisation’s activities, although the essence of the conflict remained unclear. Flagshtok has learned that the dispute concerned a USSR flag.
The USSR flag was hung above the entrance to the Russian House building next to the Russian flag in October 2025. This was an initiative of the “Historical Club” affiliated with the Russian House, which is led by Artem Sakovsky, an odious propagandist of Stalinism and the “Russian world”.
This did not sit well with Homyel officials, who apparently would prefer to control the use of Soviet symbolism themselves.
As a result, the USSR flag was removed from the building’s facade.
