Catholic priest Yury Hrytsko has been detained in the Hrodna Region. He was sentenced to 15 days of administrative detention, Haradzienskaya Pravaabarona reports.
Yury Hrytsko serves at the Catholic church in the village of Dziarėčyn in the Zelva District. According to human rights defenders, local authorities called him on Thursday, July 9, and asked him to come to the village council office. Hrytsko arrived there that evening, where police officers were already waiting for him.
The priest was detained, handcuffed and taken to a police station.
On July 10, Hrytsko was sentenced to 15 days in detention. It is not yet known whether he was detained under administrative or criminal proceedings.
It is known that shortly before his detention, around 10 people from Poland and Germany — both clergy and laypeople — had visited the priest in Dziarėčyn.
