Charter 97 editor Natallia Radzina reported on Facebook that athlete Aliaksandra Herasimenia had been attacked on Friday at Warszawa West station.
According to Radzina, Herasimenia arrived at the bus station on the morning of July 10 on business. An unidentified man, aged about 35, approached her from behind and punched her in the head. He did not say a word and immediately walked away.
“There was no one to call for help. People were rushing to catch their buses and did not even notice what had happened. When Sasha recovered, she went to the police.
I arrived to meet Sasha at Komenda Rejonowa Policji Warszawa III (Opaczewska), where she gave a statement and described what had happened,” Radzina wrote.
According to her, police warned that finding the attacker would not be easy: the incident may not have been captured by surveillance cameras, and even if it was, the footage may not be of sufficient quality. However, even if the attacker is found, his actions are likely to be classified as minor hooliganism because the injuries are not serious and are not visible.
