A man born in 1987 died in Myadzel District after mistakenly collecting a poisonous plant. The State Forensic Examination Committee reported that the incident occurred in late May.

“According to the deceased man’s partner, they had traveled to Myadzel District to visit her relatives. The man led a healthy lifestyle and was passionate about collecting medicinal herbs. On the day of the tragedy, the couple was walking along a river when the man’s attention was drawn to an unfamiliar plant growing near the water.

He approached it, pulled it from the ground, and, after smelling the root, noted its sweet aroma. After returning home, the man decided to make a salad, adding the root he had found. His partner and her relatives refused to try it. The man, however, did not hesitate to eat the dish,” the committee said.

About an hour later, the man became seriously ill, experiencing convulsions and nausea. An ambulance was called, but paramedics pronounced him dead.

Forensic experts determined that the cause of death was poisoning by water hemlock.
