Goods Foreign Trade Deficit Narrows in January

The National Statistical Committee of Belarus published data on goods foreign trade in January. It remained in deficit, but the excess of imports over exports decreased compared with the same period last year.

Belarusian exports in January increased by 18.6 percent to $3.25 billion. Imports rose by 7 percent to $3.465 billion. The foreign trade deficit amounted to $212.4 million, which was 57.2 percent lower than in January 2025. For comparison, the foreign trade deficit stood at $975.5 million in December. It should be noted that exports also fell sharply in January compared with December, declining by 22.7 percent.

In trade with CIS countries, goods exports increased by 24.1 percent year on year in January to $2.35 billion. Imports rose by 14.5 percent to $2.08 billion. The trade surplus with CIS countries increased 3.7 times to $264 million.

In trade with non-CIS countries, Belarusian goods exports grew by 6.4 percent to $905 million, while imports decreased by 2.7 percent to $1.38 billion. The goods trade deficit with non-CIS countries fell by 16.3 percent to $476.4 million.
