President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama promised Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou that his country would place a large order for Belarusian equipment. This was stated by the Foreign Ministry following their talks held on March 3.
“The negotiations focused primarily on prospects for bilateral cooperation. The President of Ghana particularly highlighted the agricultural sector, proposing the development of a five-year cooperation program in agriculture. The President also said that the first large order for Belarusian equipment is expected this year. John Dramani Mahama separately noted that a Belarusian tractor still successfully operates on his personal farm and is distinguished by its high reliability,” the ministry said.
Ryzhankou handed Mahama an invitation from Alyaksandr Lukashenka to visit Belarus. Ghana’s president accepted it and suggested agreeing on the dates of the visit through diplomatic channels. He also “conveyed his best wishes to the Belarusian leader and warmly recalled his unofficial visit to Belarus in 2024.”
The sides also agreed to hold consultations at the level of the foreign ministries and a meeting of the commission on trade and economic cooperation.
“The Ghanaian side also expressed interest in developing cooperation in combating terrorism. M. Ryzhankou confirmed Belarus’ readiness to expand cooperation in the fields of education, military-technical interaction and food security, noting that Ghana is among our country’s priority partners on the African continent,” the ministry added.
The President of Ghana also promised to send a delegation to Minsk to work out areas of cooperation.
It should be noted that last year two Ghanaian delegations — military and agricultural — already visited Belarus.
