Free Belarus Center has been recognised as an “extremist formation”. The decision by the KGB is dated 15 January. Today it was added to the relevant list maintained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“A group of citizens forming the extremist formation ‘Free Belarus Center’ is engaged in extremist activity,” the decision states.
Free Belarus Center is an independent civic initiative created to ensure an international response to repression and to provide humanitarian support to people forced to leave Belarus. After the events of 2020, the centre assisted Belarusian activists in Kyiv. In 2022, it opened an office in Warsaw. The centre now operates in two countries.
The Interior Ministry’s list indicates that Marta Skuharava, Alvina Minhazava, Palina Brodzik, and Ivan Marozka are associated with the centre. The list also includes accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and YouTube.
Free Belarus Center became the 325th organisation to be designated an “extremist formation”.
As a reminder, extremism charges are used in Belarus to combat opponents of Alyaksandr Lukashenka and dissent in general.
