People affiliated with the European Humanities University (EHU) are being summoned for what are described as “interviews” with the KGB. The summonses concern current and former students as well as faculty members, according to the human rights centre Viasna.
A criminal case has been opened in Belarus in connection with cooperation with EHU. There have already been reports of searches and interrogations of individuals affiliated with the university.
Belarus’ Supreme Court previously designated the Vilnius-based European Humanities University and its structural subdivisions as an “extremist organisation”.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the university prepares Belarusian youth “to implement Western scenarios for transforming the political system and promoting so-called democratic values and ‘alternative’ interpretations of historical, cultural and other events.”
