The National Bank of Belarus has published data on foreign trade in goods and services for January–March. According to the first-quarter results, the deficit narrowed almost threefold compared with the same period last year.
Exports of goods and services increased by 14.6% in January–March to $13.18 billion. Imports rose by 10.2% to $13.4 billion. As a result, the deficit in trade in goods and services amounted to $224 million, down 66% from a year earlier.
Exports of goods increased by 10.9% to $10.02 billion, while imports rose by 9.4% to $11.42 billion. The goods trade deficit amounted to $1.4 billion, unchanged from the first quarter of last year.
Exports of services increased by 28.2% to $3.16 billion. Imports of services rose by 15.2% to $1.98 billion. The services trade surplus grew by 58.3% compared with the first quarter of last year and reached $1.18 billion.
