Foreign Ministry Briefs Diplomats on Situation at Lithuanian Border

Belarus’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a briefing for foreign diplomats to explain the country’s position on the situation at the Lithuanian border. Minsk expressed readiness for talks and to resolve the issue “in the very near future.”

The briefing was conducted by the deputy foreign minister.

“The situation has caused great interest and concern among our main partners in the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union. In this regard, to provide them with complete information, detailed data, and the Belarusian side’s position, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today organized a briefing at the level of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Belarus, with an explanation of our approaches and an expression of readiness to hold negotiations and resolve the situation promptly, in the very near future,” said Maksim Ryzhankou, Belarus’s foreign minister, following his report to Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

Earlier today, Lukashenka heard reports from the heads of the State Border Committee, the Interior Ministry, and the Foreign Ministry regarding the situation at the border and issued instructions concerning Minsk’s negotiation stance.
