During the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a delegate of the Coordination Council and member of its delegation to PACE Pavel Latushka held a meeting with Croatian MP and member of the Croatian delegation to PACE Ivan Račan. During the discussion, the Croatian lawmaker said that following previous meetings he had submitted an official request to establish a friendship group with democratic Belarus in his country’s parliament.
At present, 25 friendship groups with the democratic forces of Belarus are already operating in democratic countries. Latushka noted that the ability of the Coordination Council’s official delegation to work in PACE plays an important role in communication with foreign parliamentarians.
The meeting also discussed the importance of supporting elections to the Coordination Council of Belarus. Račan stressed that for Belarusians, as for any other nation, it is essential that elections be free, conducted without pressure and that people have a real opportunity to make a choice.
During the sessions of this international parliamentary organization, the Belarusian delegation has already held meetings with representatives of Austria, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, France, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Estonia and a number of other countries, the Coordination Council press service reported.
