The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case over the motorised hang glider crash near Minsk. The case was launched under Part 3 of Article 314 of the Criminal Code, violation of air transport safety rules resulting in the deaths of two people through negligence.

According to investigators, on April 14 a 45-year-old pilot instructor was conducting a recreational flight on a Fregat S motorised hang glider with a 26-year-old female passenger. At around 3:30 p.m., the man lost control of the aircraft and it crashed. Both the pilot and the passenger were killed.

The inspection of the crash site was carried out in several stages. Specialists seized fragments of the motorised hang glider, equipment, the victims’ personal belongings and documents from the aviation club. A number of expert examinations have been ordered.

The case will be investigated by the Investigative Committee’s main investigation department “to establish whether aircraft of this type are being operated correctly across the country, summarise the practice of investigating criminal cases of a similar category and prevent similar incidents”.

Particular attention in the investigation will be paid to the causes and conditions that contributed to the crash, as well as to verifying the legality and justification of flight permits.

The tragedy occurred on April 14 near the village Azertso. After gaining altitude, the motorised hang glider began to fall. The pilot was former Tsvet Aloe guitarist Ruslan Ivanou.
