The Ministry of Education has denied reports claiming that Lukashenka had signed a decree allowing people to leave the BRSM in exchange for a payment of 2,250 Belarusian rubles.
“This information is not true and is fake. No changes have been made to the legislation governing membership in the BRSM,” the ministry said.
The BRSM accepts members from the age of 14. The organization says that membership is entirely voluntary, but in practice schoolchildren often face pressure from teachers who demand that they join the BRSM.
