Companies Continue to Increase Borrowing From Banks

In April, banks issued loans to legal entities totaling 19.6 billion Belarusian rubles, 2.1 billion rubles more than in March. The data was published by the National Bank of Belarus. Compared with the same month last year, lending increased by 30.9%.

The volume of loans issued during the first four months of the year rose by 21% compared with the same period last year, reaching 66.48 billion rubles.

The volume of short-term lending in January–April increased by 20.7% year-on-year to 57.1 billion rubles, while long-term lending rose by 22.7% to 9.37 billion rubles.

As of May 1, legal entities owed nearly 68 billion rubles to banks in outstanding loans. The amount increased by 904.3 million rubles during April. Compared with a year earlier, total debt grew by 11.6%.

Outstanding debt on short-term loans declined by 2.3% year-on-year to 28.76 billion rubles, while debt on long-term loans increased by 24.5% to 39.24 billion rubles.

Overdue debt owed by legal entities to banks stood at 324.2 million rubles as of May 1. It increased by 96.6 million rubles during April. Compared with May 1, 2025, overdue debt decreased by 629.3 million rubles.
