Polish customs officers discovered a shipment of smuggled cigarettes in a truck entering Poland from Belarus through the Koroszczyn border crossing, the Lublin Customs and Tax Office in Biała Podlaska reported.
According to the accompanying documents, the truck was not carrying any cargo. It was sent for X-ray scanning, which revealed irregularities in the construction of the floor.
During a thorough inspection, customs officers found more than 7,800 packs of cigarettes concealed in a false floor. The cigarettes are estimated to be worth approximately 160,000 zlotys (about $42,600).
The driver, a Polish citizen, admitted attempting to smuggle the cigarettes but refused to provide further explanations or answer investigators’ questions. Both the cigarettes and the truck were seized.
